Introduction
to TeMIP

TeMIP
KEY BENEFITS:
The key to survival, not to mention success, for communications
operators and service providers today, lies in advanced,
integrated Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) solutions
such as Compaq's TeMIP.
Spanning both network and service layers of the TMN pyramid, TeMIP
provides a consolidated view of the network. It presents a
unified, real-time end-to-end picture of what's really happening
at all levels of the network and services infrastructure.
By providing complete control over network conditions, TeMIP
facilitates the end-to-end process management which is critical to
your ability to cut time to market and reduce costs, while
increasing your service response.
It allows operations staff to see potential impacts on services as
they emerge. So they can respond immediately and effectively to
service level problems, acting where it counts - at the network
infrastructure level.
Proven Success
Over
40 of the world's leading telecom operators are already enjoying
the benefits provided by a Compaq TeMIP-based solution.
TeMIP's success can be attributed to these benefits:
More uptime, less cost
TeMIP
unifies and integrates different management domains, such as
switch and transmission monitoring, performance management, fault
management, workflow and trouble ticketing.
It maps every element on the network as part of a single,
comprehensive view and allows your operators to easily and quickly
work out where the real issues are and take the required action.
Open, standard, future-proof
TeMIP
offers an unprecedented degree of openness and adherence to
standards, and is one of the few platforms to allow true
integration of multiple protocols. This ensures that the solution
you buy today will provide a basis for your management needs
tomorrow.
Modular, customizable solutions
The
modular design of TeMIP gives it extraordinary scalability and
flexibility, ensuring that future growth will be not only feasible
but also facilitated.
With TeMIP, you can start by investing in a specific tool such as
a fault management application, and evolve towards a comprehensive
management solution.
Independent software vendors partner with Compaq to provide
best-in-class applications to complement the TeMIP solution.
Reduced time to market
TeMIP's
comprehensive application development environment helps to reduce
the cost and time overheads of developing applications for
integration into TeMIP. The object-oriented technology used to
create TeMIP facilitates the reuse of code between applications,
shortening development cycles and cutting time to market.
Unlimite
d performance
Running
on Compaq Tru64 Unix and 64-bit Compaq's Alpha System hardware,
TeMIP delivers the speed and performance needed for real-time
management of global networks.
The
distributed architecture of TeMIP means that there is no defined
limit to its performance: as the system grows it can be
transparently deployed across multiple machines, distributing the
load for maximum response.

Course
E2: TeMIP Fundamentals

Duration:
5 days.
COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This
TeMIP Fundamentals course intends to present the TeMIP V4.0
product basics providing the foundation for TMN network and
service management applications.
To
be presented:
the off the shelf generic facilities (GUIs, Fault and Trouble
management)
the open, modular and distributed architecture (object-oriented
technology),
the integration methods (loosely coupled to tightly coupled
applications),
the connectivity capacities (code-less Toolkits).
In addition to the lectures, this course includes a number of
hands-on activities using a TeMIP demonstration environment.
There are two steps in the approach:
Step
1
is a solution architect analysis. Start from the network to be
managed, deduce the needed network connections and network
and service management functions and then go through to the top
layer detailing what functions are available at operator
level or for upper level applications.
Step
2:
all capabilities to extend TeMIP features are introduced by
presenting an overview of the internals of the architecture;
the object oriented concepts; and the available toolkits.
At
the end of the course the students will know:
How they can interface to network elements, mediation devices,
and/or Q-Adapters
using TeMIP (ASCII connectivity, SNMP
connectivity, CORBA connectivity, OSI/CMIP
connectivity).
How to use TeMIP GUI and command line user interfaces.
How to manage alarms using TeMIP fault management functions.
How to associate alarm to a Trouble Ticket application.
How to use the Filtering, and Correlation facilities.
How to benefit from TeMIP distribution, and the TeMIP security
facilities.
The various integration methods available within TeMIP.
A little about TeMIP Solutions offered with standard integrated
products.
Also,
they will have been introduced to:
The
object oriented architecture of TeMIP.
The internal process of TeMIP distribution and self-management.
This
course does not intend to:
teach TMN detailed concepts or specific telecom domains (Wireline,
wireless,
transmission
etc),
give enough
information for future developers (extra training
courses are needed),
train people on MIB/SNMP,
train people on GDMO/CMIP,
train the people on IDL/CORBA,
train people on Tru64 Unix concepts,
teach how to become a TeMIP solution architect or how to
build/answer to
customer commercial questions.
Audience
This
course is the mandatory entry point for any other TeMIP class; no
specific knowledge is required. Some skills on TMN and
OO oriented concepts as well as Unix shell are welcome but not
required.
The
audience is a mix of:
TeMIP Customers, i.e. Telecommunication operators and Network
service providers
TeMIP
partners, i.e. Independent Software Vendors (ISV), Telecom
Equipment Manufacturers (TEM), Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEM), Consultants and professional services
companies.
This
class is not a development course. This class is dedicated to
Solution architects, Development project managers,
Consultants, Support engineers, Developers, and System
Administrators. This course is not intended for TeMIP
operators.
